OGI goes POP

Just a quick last minute reminder that the deadline for applications to OGI’s Pre Commercialization Business Development Fund is quickly approaching (October 31st). While the fund is specific to opportunities based on genomics or proteomics, and in the proof-of-principle (validation) phase of research, it could provide much needed support to those projects that are just getting off the ground.

For complete details, visit OGI’s program details.

Areas of consideration for the PBDF include, but are not restricted to:

  • cell, macromolecular or small molecule strategies for disease therapeutics
  • diagnostics
  • nutraceuticals
  • crop or livestock trait improvements
  • environmental management
  • laboratory and medical devices
  • associated technologies such as high throughput, robotics, information technology, analysis and organization of data resources (informatics, databases)

Opportunities where genomics/proteomics are or have been fundamental enabling components will also be considered.

Opportunities will be prioritized based on the extent to which they meet the following criteria:

  • the investment enables near term “next step” event with concrete, definitive milestone
  • an opportunity exists to forge a partnership between academic and industry
  • the project/proposal must be able to demonstrate that the OGI PBDF represents a unique funding opportunity
  • a matching fund investment will be provided by the applicant (cash or in kind), whether from internal resources or other investors or granting institutions
  • the opportunity is of interest to an entity capable of, as well as willing and committed to, further commercialization of the opportunity
