Nature Network Toronto: Join the hub!

naturenetwork

If you’re a scientist — and even if you have just peaked into the science world from time to time — you KNOW Nature, the mammoth scientific publishing group. But did you know about their social media tool for scientists, Nature Network? It’s hopping with important conversations and meaningful connections. Some call it the Facebook for scientists.

Until recently, you could only join Boston and London (UK) hubs on the Nature Network. Everyone else was dumped into the “global” category. Now, they’re opening up hubs for the city that brings the most members to the community. And we’re thinking Toronto should be the next big science city on the list!

So why Nature Network?

Become a member, and you can list your papers and your interests on Nature Network, connect with others that you may or may not know who have similar or complimentary interests. You can ask specific technical questions and get really useful answers from colleagues or ask dumb questions and still get thoughtful responses. You can start a journal club, a forum on many topics, post an event or a job.

And best of all, you have access to the finest minds in science who are ALREADY out there participating in this community.

Convinced?
What do you do now?

Already a member? Good for you! Just log in and, on your profile page, click “edit your profile.” At the top, click “change your location.” Enter the city or town in which you work and Nature will give you three hub options to choose from. Choose Toronto!

Not a member? Sign up. Set your city of origin on your profile. You can post as much or as little info as you like, but join the Toronto hub so that it can become a real hub.

Do this, and we’ll get recent job openings, upcoming seminars and other events in Toronto all listed on one tidy page.

I just tried to follow your instructions regarding hub selection and I was not offered any choices.
Edit profile gave me options to edit each line item of my address. I did so and saw no “change location” button.

Hi Philip! Thanks for telling me you’re having this problem.
    Am I understanding you right:

You clicked on “Your Profile” in the left side navigation.
Then you clicked “Edit your profile” at the top of your profile page.
    Then you entered your location?

I see “change your location” because I have already set my city of origin, so in my profile it allows me to change it. I imagine if you’ve not set that up yet, though, it might not offer that option. I don’t get an option to edit each line item of my address though.

Are you a new user, or were you an existing member of Nature Network?
