The Ada Lovelace legacy: Women in tech
It’s rare that we see women entrepreneurs walk through our doors. When I asked about female clients today in honour of Ada Lovelace day (an international day of blogging to draw attention to women excelling in technology), it drew some hems and haws. But they’re NOT like Polkaroo. They exist.
Want to talk about successful women in technology? Let’s talk about Ada Lovelace, the so-called first programmer. And let’s also talk about the women in technology here at MaRS, our amazing female advisors Krista Jones, Veronika Litinski and Wendy Hill.
And since I’m being totally selfish, I’ll also just mention a couple of my other favourite women in technology:
- MaRS client, Ann Christie, Vice President, Marketing, at Octopz (really amazing online collaboration software)
- Lisa Crossley, CEO and President of Natrix Separations who just spoke at our CIBC presents Entrepreneurship 101 lecture series to talk about (gasp!) getting a VC to give you money!
- Maggie Fox, a guest blogger for MaRS who founded Social Media Group.
- Shirley Speakman, Investment Manager for the Ontario Centres of Excellence Investment Accelerator Fund.
Need more role models? Orli Yauel (founder of Go2web20.net, an online directory for Web 2.0 applications) has created a list of 50 powerful females in technology. And this amazing list of “Women Who Risk” for a great number of women behind some amazing tech companies.
Get inspired, ladies.
