Entrepreneurs in action

At MaRS, we work with hundreds of early-stage companies to help them grow their businesses. Sometimes, some of those companies do great things: they win awards, secure financing, enter into partnerships or get great media coverage. Entrepreneurs in Action is a monthly (for the time being, anyway) round-up of our clients’ successes. If you’re a MaRS clients with news to share, email it to us!
Here’s what our clients have been up to:
- Three MaRS clients secured angel funding in July. Distility raised $350,000, Vicicog raised $600,000 and Jigsee raised an undisclosed amount.
- hereiammobile Inc. officially launched its mobile business package this month: hereiam offers really low long distance rates, hands-free calling, a free 1-800 number for your clients and a bunch of other things that make it easier to do business on the run.
- Interface Biologics signed an evaluation and exclusive license option agreement with Fresenius Medical Care, the world’s largest provider of dialysis products and services. Read more.
- John Mighton was one of 74 new appointments to the Order of Canada for his contributions as the founder of JUMP Math and as an award-winning playwright. Read more.
- Polar Mobile developed a World Cup Blackberry app that was downloaded more than 265,000 times and had more than 26,000,000 page views in 30 days. Read more.
- Social media start-up Sysomos was acquired by media distribution manager Marketwire. Read more.
- WellofChange.org officially launched at Net Change Week 2010 by delivering a Skills Drive workshop — Skills Drive is a fun and interactive session that helps charities generate new streams of funds. Watch Skills Drive in action.
- Young Social Entrepreneurs of Canada (YSEC) is in the running for a $100,000 grant from the Pepsi Canada Refresh competition — and it needs your vote! Read more about how YSEC planning to have a positive impact on its community.
