BIO Japan 2010, Yokohama

Hot of the tail of my visit to Singapore I headed over to Japan for the BIO Japan 2010 World Business Forum in Yokohama.  The theme of this year’s event was “Renaissance of Bio-Industry: Ride a Right Wave of Open Innovation.”

The event attracted a total of 15,175 visitors primarily drawn from Japanese pharmaceutical and biotech companies although a significant amount of the attendees came from neighboring Asian countries, Europe and North America.

Ontario continued to emphasize the theme of stem cell-based collaboration with Japan and held a joint seminar chaired by Dr. Mark Poznansky, Chair of the Ontario Genomics Institute, that featured a dialog between Dr. Andras Nagy of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Prof. Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University, Japan.  The session focused on the important questions “what next” and “when” on the use of stem cells to treat human disease.

The view from BIO Japan.

My principal aim in attending BIO Japan was to participate in the partnering forum and showcase the incredible innovations emerging from Ontario companies. There was strong interest from the Japanese pharmaceutical companies in our leading technologies and I confidently expect there will be some important announcements following in due course.

I’d like to thank Rob Ulmer and Hiromi Sawaki from the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo for their sterling help and support.

本当にありがとう!!
