Entrepreneurs in Action: February
March 4, 2011
At MaRS, we work with hundreds of start-up companies to help them grow their businesses. Sometimes, some of these companies do great things: they win awards, secure financing or get great media coverage. Entrepreneurs in Action is a monthly round-up of our clients’ successes.
Here’s what some of our clients have been up to:
- All three cleantech clients that presented at MaRS’ November 2010 angel event received angel financing. Congratulations GreenMantra, Smart Energy Instruments and Temporal Power!
- MMB Research successfully closed a private placement of $1 million with a group of angel investors from Toronto.
- Barbara Tassa pitched WeblishPal.com on BNN’s The Pitch. Weblish Pal connects students who want to learn English with native English speakers in video chat rooms. What did The Pitch’s experts think? Watch their decision.
- The New York Times profiled Viafoura, a video commenting system that launched at DEMO Spring 2011.
- Tiffinday, deliverer of hot, vegan lunches to downtown Toronto, was featured in Express India. (Watch our video on Tiffinday in our Meet the Entrepreneurs series.)
- Dr. Sue Abu-Hakima, CEO of Amika Mobile, received The Order of Ontario. As a two-time company founder/CEO, Dr. Abu-Hakima built her reputation on excellence and innovation in technology.
- RNA Diagnostics won the 2010 sanofi pasteur Healthcare and Biotechnology Venture Challenge. RNA Diagnostics’s product target is called RNA Disruption Assay, a potentially powerful, cost-saving diagnostic tool for managing cancer chemotherapy.
- Tiffinday, Bitstrips, Polar Mobile and GreenMantra were featured in First generation entrepreneurs turn dreams into reality, an article in India’s Financial Chronicle.
