Battle of the Ages: Who is driving the consumerization of enterprise IT?

 

Many argue that it is Gen Y – those between 18 and 30 years of age – who are demanding more consumer-like applications within the workplace. Does this theory hold true or have all employees, regardless of age, become more accustomed to the user-friendly and powerful applications that have taken the consumer space by storm? 

According to a recent Forrester report, Gen Y certainly are at the forefront of bringing their personal tools and technologies into the workplace. However, Gen X are also feeling increasingly frustrated with their workplace IT! Amongst the Boomers and Seniors, well, over 80% of them feel their IT at work is still better than what they have at home.

    You make a very strong point, Neha.  A derivative notion of this is that corporate users surely expect the same user experience when accessing corporate apps (and especially email) from their personal device. Most of them will not accept “old-school”, intrusive corporate policies on their personally-owned devices just because they are also used for work.
