11.11.11. – Remembering to give thanks

As Canadians, we’re very lucky. Unlike many others on this planet, we don’t have to expend a lot of energy fighting every day for peace or democracy at home, but can take both as a given.

We’re also fortunate to live in a country with a relatively strong economy, and a thriving research and business sector that is open to new ideas and entrepreneurship. For most of us, if we have the interest and the drive, we can devote our time and efforts to innovation as we see fit.

Here at MaRS, we’re very busy helping Canadians do just that every day. And in the hustle and bustle of building these exciting new organizations and solutions, it’s easy to take this opportunity for granted. But it has come at a great cost.

As we go through the motions of our very busy lives today, we think it fitting to pause and pay respects to the thousands of Canadian men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. Without their sacrifices, our present and future would not be nearly as bright.

So true. wonderful thoughts, beautifully expressed.
We are watching the ceremony from the National War Memorial on tv right now; great to find this on your site…. just what we were thinking.
