Bee update: Honey is on its way!

Bee update: Honey is on its way!

In the last couple of months, our bees have been bursting with honey and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been adding additional boxes on their hives called supers, which is where bees store their excess honey.

The first two boxes on a hive are where the colony raise their young and store their food (honey and pollen) for the winter. The supers store the surplus honey, which is what we will be harvesting some time in September.

We regularly examine frames from supers to see how far along the bees have come in building up the honeycomb foundation.

Once the bees have filled each comb to capacity, they put a wax coating on top as a seal.

Honey is coming!

So what are we going to do with all this honey? Stay tuned to find out.
