Do you relish a challenge and want to have an impact in a new and growing industry? Northern Nanotechnologies is an innovative and well-funded early stage nanotechnology company that is looking for research chemists to help develop new applications for nanomaterials.

As a key member of our team, you will develop applications for our new and innovative materials, working directly with customers and our internal engineering group. You will work on specific projects and will gain broad experience through being involved in all stages of development, from initial product concept to delivery of a final product to the customer. The role has two components:
  1. Bench-based product development and fundamental research
  2. Customer-focused technical sales and consulting

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Innovate / develop new and improved nanomaterial-based products and consult with customers
  • Utilize problem solving skills in identifying improvements from a customer, technical and business perspective
  • Provide assistance with technical issues in sales
  • Direct, coordinate and advise technical personnel in test procedures for analyzing physical properties of materials
  • Employ appropriate quality control and safety procedures
  • Coordinate with engineering to ensure the large-scale manufacture of newly developed materials and suitability for existing customer manufacturing systems
  • Communicate findings to team and customers in oral or written form
  • Write technical papers and reports; and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests
  • Keep up-to-date on relevant developments made by other researchers (e.g., web-based research, literature, scientific presentations and discussions)

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess experience with a broad range of standard laboratory instrumentation, including HPLC, electron microscopy, optical characterization, and others
  • Organic or inorganic synthesis background
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for both technical and business issues
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in simple manner to customers in oral and written form
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple projects
  • Original and critical thinker
  • Able to work both independently and in a team in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal & computer skills
The role requires a PhD in Chemistry or equivalent, preferably coupled with inorganic or organic synthetic experience. Experience in developing novel catalysts or coatings is an asset.
