We are a well-funded, rapidly-growing company that uses our green-chemistry technology to find simple small answers to big issues. We are looking for disciplined, creative engineers to contribute to our continued growth.
A small multi-disciplinary team is being assembled to build, commission, automate and optimize a pilot plant to manufacture our nano-materials, and ultimately to scale to full commercial production.
The Automation and Instrumentation Engineer will be primarily be responsible for the automation of a new multi-line nanomaterials production pilot plant and eventually full scale production facilities.
TASKS WILL INCLUDE
- Sizing, selection and sourcing of appropriate process monitoring instrumentation and process control devices
- Installation, wiring, and commissioning of instrumentation, control devices, motors etc.
- PLC selection, assembly and programming (Siemens/Telemechanique/etc.) to meet process automation and quality requirements
- Selection and programming of process data collection and reporting systems
- Process loop control selection, implementation and tuning (PID, Fuzzy Logic, etc.)
- Documentation of automation system (including writing operating manuals, drafting wiring diagrams etc)
- Assist team in the assembly, commissioning, operation and optimization of the pilot plant (This will periodically require work during non-standard hours)
- Analysis of process data with a view to improving the process automation control to enhance product throughput, quality and process safety
- Maintenance and operation of pilot plant support facilities such as ventilation, water treatment systems etc.
- Assist laboratory staff with instrumentation related issues
- Management of contractors (electrical / welding etc.) as required
- Train operators and team members
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS WOULD BE BENEFICIAL
- Regulatory codes for piping, mechanical and electrical equipment
- CAD (AutoCAD or similar)
- GMP
- CIP Systems
- Statistical analysis techniques
- Implementing Health and Safety programs in production environments
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc/BASc in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Eligible for licence as a professional engineer in the province of Ontario
- 3-10 years process automation experience in chemical, food, pharmaceutical or similar production environments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to work well in a team environment
