Best Practices - From Bench to Headline: Translating science for the media

SESSION THEMES

Getting science out of the lab and into the news requires a lot of work and finesse. But scientific validity or the revolutionary aspects of a discovery alone do not automatically make your work important to readers. To make the news, it has to be relevant and exciting to a broader audience.

The Toronto Star’s science reporter, Peter Calamai, will discuss how scientists and the media can work better together to contextually frame scientific and technological issues for the broader public. He will also address how good science communication helps to better inform both the public and policy makers.

Join us for this session to learn more about how you can work with the media to communicate powerfully the relevance of your discoveries and the excitement of research to a variety of audiences.
