This session addresses how early stage biotech financiers determine whether a technology has enough potential commercial value to be considered as an investment opportunity. The complexities and associated risks of developing early stage biotech applications will be discussed. Approaches for evaluating and comparing prospective commercial applications of scientific discoveries will be also reviewed.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Kelly Holman
 Managing Director
, Genesys Capital Partners Inc

Kelly is a founder and Managing Director of Genesys Capital and has extensive commercial and technical experience in the biotechnology industry.

Since co-founding Genesys Capital Partners in 2000, Kelly has been actively involved in assisting the NewGen Funds raise over $125 million of venture capital and has been instrumental in deploying over $60 million across 16 investments. He serves on the Board of Directors of Epocal Inc., Insception Biosciences Inc., and Interface Biologics Inc.

Kelly is active in deal origination and company creation and has advised Canada's National Biotechnology Advisory Committee on strategies for financing start-up and early-stage biotechnology companies.

Prior to founding Genesys Capital Partners, Kelly was a Senior Investment Manager with MDS Capital Corp. During his tenure at MDS, he was involved in all stages of investment from start-up and early-stage to mezzanine stage and public company investing.



Previously, Kelly worked in the laboratory of Dr. Peter St George-Hyslop at the University of Toronto where he was a key member of the international research team that discovered several genes responsible for Alzheimer's disease. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry and an MBA, both from Queen's University.

Damian Lamb
Managing Director

Damian is a founder and Managing Director of Genesys Capital. Damian brings a unique experience base, blending skills in both the commercial and technical side of biotechnology.

Since co-founding Genesys Capital Partners in 2000, Damian has been instrumental in raising over $125 million in venture capital funds, and has been involved in deploying over $60 million in 16 investments. He serves on the Board of DELEX Therapeutics Inc., Ionalytics Corporation and Millenium Biologix Corporation. Damian is the President of the Ottawa Biotechnology Innovation Fund and a director of the Discovery District Biotechnology Fund.



Prior to founding Genesys Capital Partners Inc., Damian was an Investment Manager with MDS Capital Corp. He is a frequently invited speaker at biotechnology industry conferences and has been a judge for the BioNorth Top 10 Canadian Life Sciences Companies contest from 2000 - 2002.

Damian graduated from McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences, with a MSc in molecular neurobiology. Damian also holds an MBA from Queen's University.
