Entrepreneurship 101

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This non-credit course is designed to introduce members of the research community to issues relating to starting and growing a technology based business. It is targeted at graduate students, post-docs, faculty, technicians and others active in research in a scientific or engineering discipline, who have an interest in creating a company to exploit the results of their research.

The series targets researchers in biological and physical sciences and engineering. It assumes no prior knowledge of business and offers lectures on a diverse range of topics including finding financing, defining markets, hiring teams and protecting intellectual property.   • Other scientific or engineering researchers who have an interest in creating a company to exploit the results of their research

FORMAT

Lectures are 1 hour in length plus questions. Refreshments and a networking session for program students and speakers will follow.

For students not able to attend the lecture, sessions will be recorded and posted after the event or you can register for a live webcast. A blog will be posted after each class, summarizing the event and posting the links to the presentation recording. Students can post questions for each other or the speaker in the blog comments.

REGISTRATION

Free, but registration is required. You only need to register once in order to attend all lectures. Please note that certification will be offered to those who check in at lectures.
