CIBC presents Entrepreneurship 101 Event Series

CLASS SUMMARY




This non-credit course is designed to introduce members of the research community to issues relating to starting and growing a technology based business. It is targeted at graduate students, post-docs, faculty, technicians and others active in research in a scientific or engineering discipline, who have an interest in creating a company to exploit the results of their research. It will be targeted at researchers in biological and physical sciences and engineering. It assumes no prior knowledge of business and will offer lectures on a diverse range of topics including finding financing, defining markets, hiring teams and protecting intellectual property.

SPEAKER INFORMATION

Ray Simonson, CEO of COREWORX Inc.

Ray brings a deep technology expertise in enterprise development with a proven serial entrepreneurial approach to developing, managing and growing mid stage technology firms to a profitable exit.  As a seasoned executive and entrepreneur with a 28 year of track record in mission critical enterprise technology, Ray has an enviable track record of consistently leading the growth of companies.  Most recently, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of CheckFree i-Solutions from 2000 to 2004. In 1996, he co-founded Bluegill Technologies. As Chief Technology Officer, he assembled and led the development of the first XML-based internet billing application. The market success of this product led to the acquisition of Bluegill by CheckFree. Prior to his experience with Bluegill and CheckFree, Ray was in a series of senior roles focused on delivering mission critical IT systems primarily in banking and insurance, with a deep expertise in enterprise content management and web application development.

REGISTRATION

Registration is free but required. You only need to register once in order to attend all lectures so when you register you will receive a confirmation for the program as a whole, which began on October 1, 2008.

Please note that certification will be offered to those who check in at lectures.
