ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Michael Erdle is managing partner of Deeth Williams Wall LLP, a leading Toronto technology and intellectual property law firm. He has practiced primarily in the areas of information technology and intellectual property law for almost 20 years. He is a qualified mediator and arbitrator and is a member of the ADR Institute of Ontario and the ADR Institute of Canada.

Michael’s areas of expertise include Internet and e-commerce; patent, trademark and copyright protection of information technology; technology development and licensing; technology transfers; joint ventures; strategic alliances; private-public sector partnerships; financing of technology and technology ventures; system implementation, outsourcing; electronic publishing and the mediation and arbitration of technology disputes.

Michael is a founding member of the Information Technology and E-Commerce Section of the Ontario Bar Association and a former member of the section executive. He is currently President of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and is the past chair of IPIC's Trademarks and Domain Names on the Internet Committee. He is also a member of the Toronto Computer Lawyers Group (past chair), Canadian IT Law Association, the Computer Law Association and the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC).

Michael has written and spoken on many current issues in information technology and intellectual property law, including dispute resolution, the development and distribution of Internet and multimedia products and services, electronic commerce, outsourcing, domain names, and software licensing. He has lectured on intellectual property law at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto and McGill University in Montreal.

Michael was called to the Ontario bar in 1988. He is a registered trade-mark agent.
