Peter Tolnai is founder and President of Orchard Capital Group Inc., an angel venture capital fund. Mr. Tolnai established Orchard in 1997 to invest in technology companies which could benefit from the managerial assistance provided by Mr. Tolnai as well as relationships with Orchard's investors, all of whom currently are or have been CEO's of major companies. Recently, Mr. Tolnai has worked with a family office on developing their venture capital investment strategy as well as selected prior investments.
From January 1995 until he founded Orchard, Mr. Tolnai was a Vice-President of Citibank Venture Capital based in Toronto. From 1990 to 1995, Mr. Tolnai was a Managing Director of Clairvest Group Inc., a publicly-traded merchant bank which managed $200 million in assets. From 1982 until 1990, Mr. Tolnai was Vice-President and Partner in Helix Investments Limited, a $200 million venture capital fund with investments principally in enterprise software, telecommunications and medical technology companies. Prior thereto, Mr. Tolnai was Vice-President of Sales & Marketing of a software applications company and an HR consulting firm.
Mr. Tolnai is non-executive Chairman of Cimtek (electronics testing, Burlington, ON); a director of EquipNet (capital equipment disposal, Canton, MA); Butterfield & Vallis (food distribution, Bermuda); Hamilton Warehouse Company (real estate, Bermuda) and a member of the board of Advisors of Butterfield & Robinson (luxury travel, Toronto, ON).
Mr. Tolnai earned a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University. He was a member of the National Capital Division Ski Team, coached the Harvard-Radcliffe Women’s Ski Team, completed the NYC marathon (with a very slow time), and has traveled extensively internationally.
