ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Tom Corr, DBA, MBA, ADipC

Tom has over 30 years of experience in the IT sector, 20 of which as CEO/President of companies ranging from start-ups to $50 million publicly listed companies. During his career he has created successful start-ups, developed business plans for the companies, created management teams, set and monitored strategic direction, negotiated funding for his companies, and created exit strategies for his investors. Tom has also been an active angel investor.

Currently Tom is the Director of Commercialization, IT and Communications, at Innovations at the University of Toronto. His job includes the management of the commercialization group at the University of Toronto who are responsible for the commercialization of IT and communications related intellectual property. The University of Toronto spends $2 million a day on research.

Tom has a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Brunel University and an Advanced Post Graduate Degree in Management Consulting from Henley Management College in England, and an MBA from the University of Toronto. Tom’s doctoral thesis was on The Return to the Province of Ontario and Government of Canada on the Tax credits that they provide to subsidize purchasers of Labour Sponsored Investment Funds in Ontario.

Tom teaches in the MBA program at the University of Toronto and in the Masters of Engineering program at McMaster University. He contributed to the best selling business book “Art of the Start: The Time Tested Battle Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything” by Guy Kawasaki and has had the following papers published in The Financier: "Auction versus Book-building IPO’s” and “Boom Bust Boom: Internet Company Valuations - From Netscape to Google".
