Growth, Financing and Exit Strategies for Biotechs in a Canadian Environment
Speaker: Dr. Tony Cruz, CEO Transition Therapeutics
With the increasing knowledge and competition in the Biotech sector, Canadian companies need to become more innovative and focused on growth and exit strategies to create wealth for the investor.
Initial growth of a Biotech company is dependent on a strong product portfolio, management and financing. Dr. Tony Cruz will discuss the selection of a strong product portfolio to meet the three driving forces for company growth:
- technologies or products with the highest potential for clinical development in large disease indications;
- products well positioned for large partnerships with Pharma and Big Biotech; and
- products with public interest and with growing unmet medical needs that are highly attractive to the markets for financing.
Canadian companies additionally need to adopt more innovative financial strategies in order to fuel their growth. Dr. Cruz will discuss the various approaches to attract capital from VCs, partnerships, mergers and public markets.
Also discussed will be the importance of planning exit strategies, including the advantages and disadvantages of going public early as a source of capital and future growth of the company.
