ApoPharma is the Innovative Drug Division of Apotex Inc., a Canadian-based world leader in the development of generic pharmaceuticals. FerriproxÆ, an iron chelator for the treatment of transfusional iron overload in thalassemia, is an ApoPharma product that is registered in over 45 countries worldwide. Research and development of a new iron chelators in a variety of indications remains a key focus for ApoPharma. Equally important is the progression towards market of a novel treatment for difficult to heal wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, by a patented process that involves delivery of human fibroblasts to the wound site. ApoPharma also carries out research on other internally discovered and in-license dug candidates, activities that will be enhanced and accelerated by its presence in the MaRS facility.
