What is the SiG Network?

SiG – Social Innovation Generation – is a partnership between the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, MaRS, the University of Waterloo and the Government of Ontario, to support transformative social innovation. SiG aims to grow its network beyond the founding core to include other partner nodes.
  • SiG@McConnell is the venture philanthropy arm of SiG, and will provide seed funding to transformative ideas, individuals and organizations.
  • SiG@Waterloo, the academic hub of SiG, produces educational programs, links academics with practitioners and analyzes successes and failures for continuous learning.
  • SiG@MaRS is the incubator and launch pad for important social ideas based at MaRS, and will focus on social enterprise and leadership talent development.

Convergence: Together, the SiG network is building a new integrated approach to social innovation. Instead of the traditional linear approach where ideas move from analysis to results in a rather slow manner, SiG’s synergistic model allows for more timely, efficient and demand-based outcomes.
