During a 2007 visit to MaRS, California Governor, Arnold Schwarzeneggar toured labs with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty (centre) and Dr. Tom Hudson (right), President & Scientific Director of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research.
What does the King of Sweden have in common with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Both have visited MaRS as part of their efforts to promote a global culture that creates economic and social value from science and technology. For King Carl XVI Gustaf last year it was about furthering Sweden’s already enviable position on the global technology stage. Governor Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, focused his summer 2007 trip to MaRS on medical research, announcing with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty a new Cancer Stem Cell Consortium, led by the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, to coordinate and fund research in California and Ontario.

Not surprisingly, the Schwarzenegger visit drew record crowds, with hundreds of tenants hanging over the indoor bridges of the atrium at MaRS, craning their necks for a glimpse of the Governator in action.

And, yes, we hope he’ll be back.
