Innovation and Performance in the Global Economy The OECD released its biannual report on national innovation indicators and trends in science, technology and industry on October 25th. Here are a few interesting findings from the report: - New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany are the leaders in the creation of start-ups, with more than 10% of new businesses annually (in 2003); the rate of closures in these countries was also lower than their creation rate
- California (United States) and Tokyo (Japan) are leading regions in terms of the number of PCT applications both in information and communication technology (ICT) and biotechnology
- Canada ranks #5 in terms of share of biotechnology patents filed under PCT

Since we promote the convergence of a full range of science and technology disciplines, we've dropped ”Medical and Related Sciences” from our name and we’re back to just “MaRS”.
