Michael Heilbronn

Chief Financial Officer
Michael Heilbronn brings more than 30 years’ finance and operational experience to MaRS, having worked in a senior executive capacity in both IT and health care at public institutions, non-profits and private sector companies. Most recently, Michael spent seven years running a successful finance and health care consulting practice, where he was engaged in a number of strategic projects as well as complex back-office integration across regional health systems.

Prior to starting his own company, Michael served for 10 years as the CFO of St. Michael’s Hospital, where his portfolio included both finance and non-clinical support services. He led the dramatic financial turnaround of the hospital and the acquisition of the former Wellesley Central Hospital during a time of extreme turbulence in the health care system in Ontario. Before joining St. Michael’s, he held a number of senior executive positions in IT companies Rogers, Wang and International Computers Limited (acquired by Fujitsu).

Michael is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
