About Studio Y
Studio Y is a $10 million, five-year investment by the Government of Ontario enabling promising young people to access and develop critical knowledge, skills, abilities and resources as well as providing them with rich leadership training, extensive coaching and a diverse range of experiences to thrive in the new economy. Each year, up to 25 young leaders and innovators, aged 18-29, from across Ontario will be invited to MaRS Discovery District, Canada’s largest innovation hub, to participate in an eight-month residential fellowship focused on personal mastery, 21st century skills development, project-based real-world experience, and systems change leadership.

Purpose of Position
The Manager, Studio Y will be a key member of a high-performance team whose purpose is to develop the most innovative and impactful youth development initiative globally. This is not your traditional team in any way (say good-bye to waiting for the clock to hit 5)—to achieve our ambitious purpose, we will all go far and beyond to deliver results while committing to one another to make the time and effort we invest into our team and our work the most transformative experience for each of us in the process.

General Accountability
Leads the design, development, delivery, and evolution of the new Studio Y with primary responsibility for all aspects of the program

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized, holistic development support for participants throughout their experience
  • Lead the start-up, delivery, and execution of a leading-edge youth development initiative;
  • Support the development and management of a core team and broad range of volunteers
  • Support the management of relationships with and / or reporting to various stakeholders including MaRS Executive Team, Advisory Councils, governments, ecosystem partners across the province, nationally, and globally
  • Proactively identify and fill in of gaps in the team’s efforts required to achieve success regardless of how seemingly tactical or small they may be
  • Any other support required

MaRS Discovery District staff at all levels particularly SiG@MaRS, Centre for Impact Investing, Entrepreneurship Education, and all enabling departments (Finance, HR, Marketing, etc)

Educational/Technical Requirements  

  • Strong facilitation, relationship management and social acumen capability
  • Strong project / portfolio management / execution capability
  • Strong problem-solving and issue management capability
  • Significant depth of experience having put the above to test, failed, and learned, and evolved (# of years of experience is not a determining factor)
  • Significant leadership experience with initiative creation / development / build-up – within the context of an organization, start-up, or project
  • Knowledge of, and experience, with innovative leadership, learning, and / or development initiatives
  • Deep interest in systems change, innovation, social change, youth, behaviour change, development, and leadership

Personal Requirements  

  • Self-awareness, drive, learning agility, adaptability, balance, comfort with ambiguity, stakeholder-driven
  • Visualization and creative skills, an orientation toward details, and fast execution skills (electronic and physical) are considered important assets.
  • An ability to operate in both official languages (English and French) is considered an important asset
  • Work, life, or school experience in communities outside the GTA is considered an important asset

Terms
This is a full-time, salary position for an initial term of one-year with potential for extension to March 31, 2018 based on performance which may be renewed beyond that date should additional funding be secured.  The Manager reports directly to the Director, Studio Y.
