Tom Rand, Senior Advisor, Cleantech (@tomrand)
Tom has been active in the cleantech sector both as a venture capitalist and from a policy perspective, so he understands the challenges entrepreneurs face. His focus at MaRS is on new ventures based on low-carbon technologies and the supporting infrastructure, such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.
“In my family, we’ve had table pounding discussions about climate change since I was 12. Being able to join the team at MaRS and helping to kick start the cleantech space in this country is the conclusion of one phase and the start of another. We can help these entrepreneurs vault over the obstacles and make things happen.”

Our global ecosystem is undergoing a major transformation. Factors such as booming population growth and the declining availability of arable land and fresh water challenge us to produce more food with fewer resources. At Agri-Neo, our mission is to help turn these challenges into opportunities for growers. We are dedicated to developing and marketing innovative solutions that increase agricultural productivity while maintaining balance in the environment. This will enable growers to continue producing enough safe food to feed all of us, and future generations to come.

Energent fully manages and delivers its completely web-based energy informatics solutions via its software as a service (SaaS) business model. This suite of software products enables short-term energy savings in the 5% to 10% range, and longer-term savings as high as 20% to 25%. These energy savings are realized by eliminating waste, realizing efficiency gains, measuring and verifying results, and providing decision support and analytics for energy procurement and/or targeted capital improvements.
