You're invited to attend a series of events with Miloon Kothari, the first United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing. For almost a decade, Mr Kothari worked to elaborate the intersections between international human rights law and domestic policies and programs, including through fact-finding missions to countries including Canada.

The right to housing, health and the reality of Canada's affordable housing crisis - a public forum with Miloon Kothari, along with Canadian and international speakers, to review Canada's progress in meeting its international housing rights obligations.

The right to housing and the right to health - a theoretical and research perspective. Mr. Kothari will meet with academics and students for a review of human rights and global realities.

Making rights matter - reflections on a decade as special rapporteur – Miloon Kothari will deliver reflections on his decade as the first United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing, including his experiences on a number of fact-finding missions and observations on the impact of his work.

Former Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing
United Nations Human Rights Council (2000-2008)
Mr. Kothari is a leading voice at national, regional and international forums on human rights, especially economic, social and cultural rights. Mr. Kothari was appointed in September 2000 by the UN Commission on Human Rights as the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing. His mandate involves reporting annually to the Commission (now the UN Human Rights Council) on the status throughout the world of the realization of the rights that are related to the right to adequate housing, and identifying practical solutions and good practices towards this end.  In addition, the Commission requested the Special Rapporteur to promote cooperation among and assistance to Governments in their efforts to secure these rights; apply a gender perspective in the work; develop regular dialogue and collaboration with Governments, relevant UN bodies, specialised agencies, civil society and international financial institutions.
