Charles Leadbeater on Social Innovation: Harnessing collaborative, cross-sector innovation for public good

MaRS Centre Auditorium
101 College Street
Toronto, ON
For decades innovation was seen as the purview of the private sector. Today that misperception is breaking down as non-profits and the public sector renew their own innovative capacity, often in partnership with other sectors. A current frontier of innovation is the application of design processes led by multi-sector cohorts dedicated to re-inventing systems through co-creation.
Charles Leadbeater is a leading authority on innovation and creativity. He is constantly scouring the globe to identify new insights on innovation process and new ways to accelerate innovation generating public benefits.
For example, in an era of fiscal restraint and public sector reform, where are public services headed? Leadbeater, like no other, articulates the need for collaboration in redesigning the public service of the future. “The big challenge for public service reform is not just to make services more like Fed Ex, more efficient and reliable. There is now another big challenge: to make public services as participative, communal and collective as the best of what it emerging from the new collaborative culture.”
Charles Leadbeater joins Social Innovation Generation for a national tour as part of the Inspiring Action for Social Impact Series. Charles will speak at MaRS on social innovation’s ability to generate impact across sectors. His talk will cite lessons from high-impact innovations, and how we can learn from these examples to scale the solutions capable of addressing Canada’s persistent social challenges.
