Elastin Specialties, founded in 1996, is a privately-held biotechnology company focused on the commercialization of a unique set of polypeptides based on the structure of human elastin, a protein found naturally in skin and other elastic tissues.  Easy to produce and purify using recombinant protein expression techniques, our patented family of elastin-based polypeptides may be used to form coatings, fibers and membranes which self-assemble naturally, and are readily accepted by the body.  In co-operation with our corporate partners, Elastin Specialties is currently involved in the development of smart, next-generation biomaterials for use in a wide variety of applications, including coatings for cardiovascular devices that prevent blood clot formation, orthopedic materials, materials used in the treatment of urinary incontinence, and materials that can be used for repairing facial damage and reduce the signs of aging.
