OtoSim

OtoSim Inc. is a company focused on Otolaryngological (ENT- Ear, Nose & Throat) simulation, training and treatment systems.  The first product commercialized is OtoSim 1.0 an otoscopy training and simulation system developed by Dr. Vito Forte and Dr. Paolo Campisi out of The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the University of Toronto.  OtoSim Inc. is a partnership of the inventors, SickKids and MaRS Innovation.

In a trial, OtoSim was shown to increase the diagnostic accuracy of 3rd year medical students by 44%. The OtoSim enables the following:

• Students can learn and practice diagnosing ear pathologies using an otoscope to examine over 200 high-fidelity images.
• A realistic ear geometry and optics provide a life-like simulated environment, improving experiential learning.
• The instructor can interact and provide immediate feedback to the student as they use OtoSim and learn through the otoscope.
• Up to six OtoSims can be connected to a single instructor computer allowing effective use of the teacher’s time and consistent messaging.
• Students develop confidence in their otoscopic skills.

The company is also developing extensions of the OtoSim and other products in the ENT space.  OtoSim Inc. is also open to partnering on simulation technology development and marketing.
