Dr. Fenster currently holds a Canada Research Chair-Tier 1 in Biomedical Engineering and is recipient of the 2007 Premier’s Award for Innovative Leadership. Dr. Fenster’s group has focused on the development of mechatronic systems involving 3D ultrasound imaging with diagnostic and surgical/therapeutic applications. His team developed the world’s firsts in 3D ultrasound imaging of the prostate, 3D ultrasound guided prostate cryosurgery and brachytherapy. This technology has been licensed for worldwide distribution for cancer therapy and research. His research has resulted in 35 patents issued and pending, and the formation of two companies, with Dr. Fenster as a founding scientist.
