K–12 Education: Opportunities and Strategies for Ontario Entrepreneurs
As it stands, the Canadian K–12 education system is one of the best in the world. Canadian students regularly place highly in international rankings gathered by the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) when it comes to reading, mathematics and science.
That said, there are considerable challenges in ensuring that all Canadian youth benefit from this system and achieve their highest potential. Student achievement is highly correlated with socioeconomic background and geographical location. Also, despite high PISA rankings, Canada lags in its capacity for innovation. To remain globally competitive, Ontario (and Canada) must continue to embrace new ways to improve student learning and outcomes.
