Michel Labbé, Options for Homes

Michel Labbé, Options for Homes
Michel Labbé (Mike to many Torontonians), MCIP, is an Urban and Regional Planning Graduate from the University of Waterloo. He has been involved in the production of affordable housing for 25 years, the first 13 working on subsidized rental projects within Lantana Non-profit Housing Corporation.

A trip to work in the townships of Johannesburg, South Africa, and the disappearance of government grants contributed to a shift in focus from affordable rental to affordable ownership housing.

Since 1992, Michel, as President of Options for Homes Non-profit Corporation, has been instrumental in developing a model that can provide mixed income housing to thousands of households without any permanent government subsidy. Options for Homes has developed several projects in Toronto and has led some neighbourhood revivals such as the Distillery District, now considered one of the hippest locations in Toronto.

Options for Homes has won a CMHC National Housing Award, a Co-operative Innovator award, and is licensing its concept across Canada. /magnoliaPublic/dms/mars/Images/social-ent-summit/sponsor-logos0/sponsor-logos.gif Social Entrepreneurship Summit Sponsors 2007-10-16 16:20
