Tim Draimin is the CEO of Tides Canada Foundation, a national, public foundation that provides philanthropic counsel and charitable giving services to individuals, families, foundations and businesses. Tides Canada has special expertise in the areas of social and environmental sustainability.

Tides Canada hosts CAUSEWAY, a new collaborative initiative dedicated to enabling the accelerated development of “social finance” capital instruments in Canada called. Besides Tides, collaborating partners include The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, Carleton University, the Canadian Co-operative Association, PLAN, Ashoka Canada, Social Capital Partners and SiG@MaRS. Tim is the chair of the CAUSEWAY steering committee.

Tim has over thirty-five years’ experience in the charitable and non-profit sector in Canada and abroad. An active volunteer, he is currently on the advisory board of the International Development Program at University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus). He is a past board member of the Social Investment Organization, Canadian Environmental Grantmakers Network, Goldie Hawn Institute, past Fellow at York University Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC), and past member of the Voluntary Sector Forum’s Finance Action Group.

Tim speaks frequently at conferences on philanthropy, social finance, and related issues of social and environmental sustainability and the role of non-profits. He is the co-author of numerous publications including: “Getting Started on Strategic Giving for Social Change” in Global Profit and Global Justice: Using Your Money to Change the World; “Civil Society: A Window on the Future of Partnership”, Cooperation South; and Strengthening Civil Society: The Role of Southern Foundations, Synergos Institute.

Founded in 2000, Tides Canada provides informed counsel to its donor partners as they decide on high impact charitable giving strategies. Understanding that each donor’s goal is unique, Tides Canada supports greater impact of its donor’s charitable intentions by providing innovative and  customized services, an extensive set of practical resources, and access to a peer learning and collaboration network of like-minded donors operating at the nexus of social investing, social finance and social change philanthropy. Tides Canada has offices in Toronto and Vancouver.

In 2005, Tides Canada was recognized by Bruce Mau’s AGO exhibit MASSIVE CHANGE as one of 9 leading Canadian innovators, cited specifically for its work in helping people activate wealth for social change.
