Length: 0:00 mins | Uploaded 2 days ago | consolidated views

As the debate over Facebook’s privacy settings rages, it’s arguable that there are more insidious operators at work—both at the national and international level. On May 18, 2010, CBC reported that our national security agency, CSIS, has warned that our government, university and industry computer systems are increasingly under cyber-attack. Internet filtering, censorship of web content, and online surveillance are increasing in scale, scope, and sophistication around the world. Current tools for Internet control go beyond mere denial of information. This panel, headed by CBC’s technology commentator Jesse Hirsh, will discuss cyberspace security, with specific implications for Canadian foreign policy. When is it in the public interest to allow the free flow of information, and when is it in the national interest to control it? Featuring: Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Ronald Deibert, Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Citizen Lab at the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto. Moderated by Jesse Hirsh, internet strategist, researcher, and broadcaster.
