Student Work Placement Program
This position is offered in part by the MaRS Student Work Placement program (SWP), which connects post-secondary students with work placements in technology and business.
Off2Class is a software toolkit for English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and schools. We provide content to teach lessons paired with a student management system in a SaaS format to teachers working online, in person and in classrooms, across 85 countries. Our clients include private tutors, K12 schools, higher education institutions, private language institutes and NGOs. The business is split (roughly 50:50) between a B2C business line (independent tutors) and a B2B business line (schools).
Off2Class is adding an intern to our development team. The intern will work directly with the technical co-founder as well as the creative team, on designing and implementing visual and interactive elements on our web application including our lesson library, administration panels, our sales ‘brochure’ pages and content marketing pages. Ideally the intern will be able to both design visual elements (with creative input from the team) and implement them, while also implementing UI and UX concepts and principles.
We are fun and dynamic team. You will be working directly with the co-founder of the company. Expect to be mentored directly by our co-founder and push your ideas into practice, within your first weeks of work. You will be working out of the Centre for Social Innovation in the heart of the Annex, surrounded by startup activity and energy.
Design Internship. You will re-design the visual and UI elements of our ESL lesson library, think ‘Netflix’ for education content! In addition, you will work on the re-design of our ‘brochure’ pages and content marketing pages.
We are looking for a designer who is motivated by the art of design and wants to put their visual design skills into action. Responsibilities will include creation of visual elements, creation of wireframes and creation of visual elements of our web application. You will work with the product team and bridge the gap between graphical design and implementation.
College, Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science or Graphic Design
We are looking for attitude and creative drive over experience. Your experience does not need to include formal work postings. We are happy to accept personal projects and creative works, as representations of your skills and abilities.
- Proficient understanding of tools such as Photoshop, Invision and Gimp (ability to create visual files a must)
- Proficient understanding of cross-browser/cross-device compatibility issues and ways to work around them
- Basic understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
- Basic understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
- Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that applications will adhere to them
We are looking for someone with a willingness to learn and a passion for design. While we value attitude over experience, the successful candidate will be meticulous and thorough, without being a perfectionist. Above all, as a small company, we are looking for someone with a willingness to learn and carry their ideas to implementation, with minor supervision but full support
