Position Role: Design
Position Level: Internship
Position Type: Contract
Position Location: Toronto
Application Deadline: 2018-07-27
This position is offered in part by the MaRS Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Program, which connects post-secondary students with work placements in technology and business.
Off2Class is a software toolkit for English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and schools. We provide content to teach lessons paired with a student management system in a SaaS format to teachers working online, in person and in classrooms, across 85 countries. Our clients include private tutors, K12 schools, higher education institutions, private language institutes and NGOs.
Off2Class is adding an intern to our content team. The intern will be exposed to all aspects of producing interactive learning content that is used in a live ESL teaching environment. This will include planning, development, production and garnering feedback directly from educators working with the content. The intern will also have the opportunity to design operational tools that will facilitate the scaling of the content production cycle within Off2Class and conduct UX workshops with educational users.
We are fun and dynamic team. You will be working directly with a co-founder of the company. Expect to be mentored directly by our Head of Content and learn all aspects of the digital education content production process. If your abilities can grow at the same pace as the company, this internship could eventually lead to a leadership role in the future. You will be working out of the Ryerson DMZ in the heart of downtown Toronto, surrounded by startup activity and energy.
You will be responsible for developing new, interactive, digital ESL lesson content for the Off2Class content library. You will plan the development of lesson content, write lesson content, develop visual representations of the content and gather feedback directly from educational users of the content for future consideration. There is also an opportunity to garner UX feedback (outside of content, but related to the software functionality of our tool) from educational user. There is also the opportunity to work on our internal content production operations in order to develop a scalable model for future content production.
- Bachelors or Master’s Degree
- Studying in Instructional Design, Educational Design, TESOL, TEFL or Masters of Education
- Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image.
- Familiarity with tools such as as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Working skills in visual design programs such as Invision a plus
- The candidate must possess the speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills equivalent to a native speaker of Standard North American English (but of course, the candidate need not be a native speaker of the language)
We are looking for someone with a willingness to learn and a passion for teaching the English language. While we value attitude over experience, the successful candidate will be meticulous and thorough, without being a perfectionist. Above all, as a small company, we are looking for someone with a willingness to learn and carry out every aspect of lesson content production, with a desire to eventually ‘scale’ to become Head of Content in the future.
