Did you know that 1 in 4 mobile devices are contaminated with pathogenic bacteria? Did you know that when these types of bacteria are spread and exposed to those with weakened immune systems – like patients in the neonatal intensive care unit – the consequences could be fatal? That hospital-acquired infections are causing hundreds of thousands of patients to re-admit themselves or extend their stay in hospitals, and it’s adding more than a million-dollar financial burden on our healthcare system each year?
Our mission is simple: eliminate pathogens on mobile devices through the use of effective and easy-to-use UV products. We do this by designing technologies that people will actually use, backed by science reflective of real-world conditions. We harness the power of UV light to kill the most dangerous bacteria without damaging expensive touch screens.
Our flagship product, the CleanSlate, is used in healthcare to sanitize mobile devices – whether that is phones, tablets, pagers, watches, badges, etc. Ultimately, our goal is to prevent the spread of infection and improve patient outcomes.
We are looking for an experienced software or computer engineering-based candidate who can help us advance our SaaS platform. This web-based application is used by our customers to track the sanitization of devices in healthcare facilities in real-time. We want you to help us grow the product by adding features and updates based on iterative customer feedback. We also want your help in creating a coupled mobile app to provide real-time feedback and reminders to end-users, closing the loop on an active tracking system.
On top of this, our team is actively mentoring several students and professionals, and you will benefit from our coaching sessions. We want to prioritize the best possible learning experience, preparing you for the next step of your career.
- Design, build and maintain APIs
- Optimize and update database schemas
- Debug issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Build scalable applications to support the growing needs of the business
- Design and develop a hybrid application for iOS and Android
- Take part in pilot studies, gather and incorporate user feedback
- Evaluate the technical trade-offs of every decision
- Excellent documentation of code and communication to customers & team
As a member of a fast-paced and growing start-up, you will be treated as a full-time employee, given significant input towards product development and will be depended upon to deliver output. We’re looking for candidates that are innovative and eager to define unknown systems from the ground up. You must be able to communicate well and work collaboratively in a team-driven environment. You will need to be adaptable and flexible. We are working to find a product-market-fit, meaning our team needs to respond quickly to changing priorities.
Apart from these crucial soft skills, we’re anticipating some technical abilities as well:
- Knowledge of web services and networking
- Comfortable creating and using web-based REST APIs
- Comfortable working with relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL), and SQL
- Solid understanding of unit testing
- Comfortable working with Git
- Knowledge of Webpack, Babel, and Docker is nice to have
*Because of requirements from our funding sources, the selected candidate must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Our offices are located in the heart of Toronto; any relocation costs will not be reimbursed by the company. We plan to pay ~$10,000 for your 16-week employment.
Our founders started CleanSlate UV in 2014 out of Queen’s University. Our product has now launched in hospitals in Canada, across the US, Australia and New Zealand. Our team of seven is spread evenly over engineering and business backgrounds, and brings years of expertise related to biomechanical engineering, user interface design, medical device sales, operational finance, and more.
