Parallel Process for Implementation Planning
How and where the Adoption stream of EXCITE fits into the overall EXCITE model.
Once a technology has been selected for program participation and contracts are executed, EXCITE works collaboratively with the Office of the Chief Health Innovation Strategist (OCHIS), the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MoHLTC), industry, the lead Methodological Centre and other key stakeholders to conduct a Conditions of Adoption analysis via a cross-functional “Implementation Working Group”. The analysis lays out the key system infrastructure that will need to be changed or created in order for adoption of the technology to occur at scale in Ontario (should the results of the EXCITE study be positive). While the study is underway in the field, the Implementation Working Group refines the Conditions of Adoption analysis into a draft Implementation Plan. The objective of the Plan is to streamline the path to adoption and wide-scale uptake of the technology once a positive recommendation for adoption is made by the EXCITE Management Board. The design of the EXCITE process supports a “pull technology model” for innovation adoption wherein the MoHLTC is integral in the prioritization of the technology based on alignment of the innovation to health system needs and overall impact, and can then incorporate the EXCITE evidence package into policy and implementation.
