Connecting to solve the world’s problems

July 10, 2012

“This is not about hooking up online… it’s changing the deep structured architecture of every institution.” Don Tapscott, CEO, The Tapscott Group

Last month, MaRS had the pleasure of welcoming Don Tapscott, one of the world’s leading authorities on innovation, media, and the economic and social impact of technology, as a guest speaker in our Global Leadership series.

From his latest book (co-author Anthony D. Williams), Macrowikinomics: New Solutions for a Connected Planet, Don presented groundbreaking innovations from every corner of the globe, highlighting how businesses, organizations and individuals alike are using mass collaboration to revolutionize not only the way we work, but how we live, learn, create and care for each other.

In Don’s presentation, “New Solutions for a Connected Planet,” he discussed the five principles for the age of networked intelligence, and the global problem solving initiative with the World Economic Forum and the Martin Prosperity Institute:

  1. Collaboration
  2. Openness
  3. Sharing
  4. Integrity
  5. Interdependence

On June 26, Don kicked off Critical Crossroads, the opening talk at TEDGlobal 2012. His presentation focused on the need for openness in a society where old systems are failing us, resulting in a global downturn. He received a standing ovation from the crowd. Read more about it here.
