Prior to joining MaRS, Silene worked in the oil and gas industry for 7 years in diverse countries including Colombia, Argentina, Denmark, and Scotland. During her time in Argentina, Silene underwent an extensive training program to develop a broad understanding of the world’s oil and gas industry through practical field experience. Gaining an up-close look at the oil and gas industry led to her interest in sustainable business practices. While pursuing her MBA at Rotman, Silene was elected as the president of the Rotman Sustainability Club (www.inside.rotman.utoronto.ca/netimpact), where she led a team of 14 peers to bring awareness to MBA students about sustainability and the importance of incorporating purpose into business.
