Pension Transitions Inc. is a fintech company focused on solving macro and micro problems in the world of finance with particular focus on the pension area. People receive pensions from three different sources: government, workplace, and personal savings. Our goal is to raise awareness and educate people on their pension benefits from each of these sources in an insightful and interactive fashion. As a data-driven company, we focus on applying technology and data science in addressing certain challenges in pension behavioural finance. Additionally, we perform research projects for all three pension pillars with the objective of improving transparency & sustainability for all stakeholders.

Department: Product Development

Our core mission is to address old age poverty by providing individuals with the required tools to evaluate their pension status well ahead of time and plan for it accordingly. This is a highly impactful and rewarding position for anyone who cares about the financial well-being of the current and future retirees. As part of the product development team, you will play a major role in the future roadmap of the products we offer to our customers. In specific, you will work through a body of legislation translating the rules into a set of mathematical functions that will become the basis for pension calculator widgets. We expect you to be a self-starter who can take ownership of the project and take it from the beginning to the end. Of course, we will be there to support you along the way. Our co-working space offers social events and the opportunity to engage with other organizations and startups. We are an equal opportunity employer and expect all employees to respect the diversity & inclusion in the workplace.

Project Description:

The first problem we are solving is to calculate the pension income from government sources such as OAS, GIS and CPP. The body of laws and regulations determine what a pensioner is entitled to. With our assistance and close cooperation, we want you to go through these documents and build a set of decision rules applying in each scenario. The project requires critical thinking and creativity to translate a convoluted set of rules to a fairly simple set of inputs from a user’s perspective. As a highly visible project, the results of your work will be the backbone of pension reports for millions of Canadians on the portal. Recommendations are customer specific and are meant to encourage people to improve their situation. Time permitting, you will have a chance to run analytics on the report generation module and further refine the accuracy and efficiency of the product.

Role Description:

In your role, you will be working closely with one of the co-founders to gather the business requirements for the development of the pension calculators. Depending on your skill level, you can work both as a business analyst and a technical analyst. In the business analyst role, you will be identifying and documenting the parameters that determine the pension benefits for an individual or a couple. These set of requirements are further translated to a technical language, creating the roadmap for the development and deployment of pension calculators online. You have to work closely and in tandem with the developer to create a visually appealing product with a friendly user interface.
