Remembering Allan Slaight, a MaRS founder

Allan Slaight was a forward-thinker who believed in the power of innovation to improve the world.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Allan Slaight. His contributions to Canadian culture will be felt for generations to come. Allan was also a visionary member of MaRS’ College of Founders and someone who understood the impacts of rapidly evolving technologies and the need to accelerate new industries and opportunities for Canadians. He was a champion of MaRS’ mission, providing early, critical funding for new concepts and approaches to drive positive global impact for entrepreneurs and the innovation community. We extend our deepest condolences to the Slaight family and our gratitude for his extraordinary legacy.

“Allan Slaight was a great Canadian and a true visionary with a big dream of turning innovative ideas into action. He will be greatly missed.” — Annette Verschuren, CEO, NRStor and chair, MaRS board of directors

“There are few Canadians who consistently made a mark in every initiative in which they were involved, that had such success and excellence as their hallmarks as did Allan Slaight. His generous philanthropy was eclectic, impactful and given with modesty. Borrowing a quote from the former Governor General, David Johnston, he was a Model Canadian – a man with the keenest of minds and kindest of hearts.” — Calvin Stiller, director emeritus, MaRS board of directors

“The innovation community is mourning the loss of a great supporter. Allan Slaight was a true believer in the power of innovation and left a mark on so many sectors across Canada. My sincere condolences to his family.”Gordon M. Nixon, former MaRS board chair
