Four steps to leveraging funding applications

Finding funding is one of the biggest challenges faced by entrepreneurs today.

To help startups more easily access funding resources, MaRS recently partnered with The Funding Portal, a platform that aggregates more than 7,000 sources of funding, including government and private sources, such as venture capital, angel investors, bank financing and private equity, within a free searchable database. At this month’s MaRS Best Practices session, Teri Kirk, founder and CEO of The Funding Portal, discussed Canada’s funding marketplace and how to overcome the most common challenges faced when applying for funding.

In her talk, Teri highlighted the following four points on how startups can increase their success when searching and applying for funding.

  1. Be a big fish in a little pond.
  2. DO sweat the small stuff.
  3. Write for your audience.
  4. Multiply and go forth.

She expands on these tips in this five-minute Hot Tips for Startups video.
