The top tech events in Toronto this February

Ahead of a busy spring conference season — when events such as Health Innovation Week and the inaugural MaRS Cleantech Summit will take over MaRS — February’s tech events include a talk on climate change, a tech talent career fair, and workshops for both corporate innovators and startups.

Here are our top picks for Toronto tech events this February:

1. Learn about extraordinary solutions for a sustainable future

To avoid irreversible damage and keep global warming under 1.5 degrees, we only have a decade to adopt solutions. In this talk to the Canadian Club of Toronto, MaRS CEO Yung Wu will shed light on how MaRS is making the climate crisis a priority by scaling cleantech ventures, working with business and government to create sustainable markets, and using its innovation hub as a platform to explore ideas and inspire change. 2. A workshop for corporate innovators

For corporate employees looking to foster a culture of innovation within their organization, the MaRS Partnerships Corporate Innovation Training series provides interactive and experiential learning opportunities. This month’s session focuses on how to pitch your ideas and gain buy-in, with attendees learning how to effectively communicate with stakeholders to build support for new ideas. You’ll get hands-on experience practising your pitch and receive feedback from peers and facilitators. February 19, MaRS Discovery District.

3. An employment law crash course for startups

For startups, a lack of legal and compliance knowledge can quickly derail operations, costing scarce time and money. If HR legalese sounds dull, think back on some of 2019’s biggest tech headlines (hint: many of them were not enviable) and you’ll likely change your mind.  Learn how to get ahead of potential sticky situations with a preparatory understanding of the legal landscape in this half-day session with experts from Fasken, MaRS, and startups Careguide and Crowdriff. February 25, MaRS Discovery District.

4. A tech talent career fair

Toronto’s tech ecosystem is the fastest growing in North America, so it’s no surprise its top companies are on the hunt for tech talent. At the Tech Talent Toronto Job Fair, companies like Okta, TouchBistro, CIBC and Rogers will showcase their employer brand to a crowd of skilled candidates. February 26, Steam Whistle Brewing.
