Artists and entrepreneurs team up at MaRS to inspire creative thinking around climate change

TORONTO, Aug. 21, 2014 – Three of Toronto’s emerging artists are teaming up with a trio of Canada’s leading cleantech entrepreneurs to create art that asks: “What if humanity solved climate change?”

Adjacent Possibilities in art+energy (Twitter: @AdjacentP) is a first-of-its-kind exhibition, showcasing the works of Li-Hill, LeuWebb Projects and MAKELAB, in collaboration with MaRS Cleantech venture clients Morgan Solar, Hydrostor and MMB Networks.

“You lose people as soon as you say the words ‘megawatt-hour’,” says Scott Baker, co-founder of Adjacent Possibilities and Fellow with MaRS’ youth leadership initiative, Studio Y.

“By highlighting entrepreneurs who are innovating solutions to climate change locally, and using art as a medium to tell these stories, we hope to create a more accessible entry point in the conversation surrounding climate change.”

The exhibit in the MaRS Atrium will be open to the public for two weeks, with an official launch on August 26, 2014 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. The evening will also include a talkback with the artists and entrepreneurs, a screening of a documentary about the artistic process, and a keynote address by cleantech entrepreneur, investor and author, Tom Rand.

The project emerged from conversations between young leaders from Action Canada and Studio Y at MaRS, with mentorship and incubation from MaRS’ Cleantech venture services.
