MaRS appoints Vice President, Real Estate

Toronto, June 30, 2008 – MaRS Discovery District has appointed Randal Froebelius to the new role of Vice President, Real Estate.

As VP Real Estate, Randal will have full responsibility for all aspects of the MaRS Centre operations and he will also assume a leadership role in the relationship with Alexandria Real Estate Equities, overseeing the Phase II development partnership for MaRS. Phase II will double the current MaRS Centre to 1.5 million sq. ft. at a prime downtown Toronto location.

Randal has been working with MaRS as a part-time Property Manager since the opening of the MaRS Centre, delivering those services through his property management company.  He will transition to full-time employment status with MaRS on Aug. 1, when he formally assumes this senior management role.

Randal’s appointment follows from a competitive search, with engagement of MaRS board members in the final selection. Randal has more than 20 years of experience in property management, leasing, project management and construction. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Science (Civil) from graduated from The University of Western Ontario and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

He has held progressive positions with contracting, real estate development and real estate management companies.  Since 2004, Randal has been heading Equity ICI Real Estate Services, a mid-sized property management firm based in Toronto.

Randal serves on the Board of Directors for the Building Owners and Managers Association of Toronto (BOMA Toronto) and is Treasurer of the organization.  He sits on the oversight committee for the $60 million BOMA Conservation and Demand Management program, an incentive program that BOMA is administering on behalf of the province to encourage commercial building owners to complete energy conservation projects.  Randal is also a member of the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario’s Standard Development Committee for the Built Environment, an initiative of the province that will see Ontario accessible to all Ontarians with disabilities by 2025, as well as a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP).
