From a conference highlighting health innovation to an in-depth discussion on IP and Canada’s innovation strategy, the June calendar is packed with events for every corner of the tech community.

Here are the can’t-miss online tech events this month:

Explore the frontiers of health innovation

Canada’s booming health sector is poised to drive recovery in the post-pandemic economy. To showcase these new technologies and bring together all members of the tech ecosystem, we’re hosting MaRS Impact Health: two days of online talks, demos, debates and bold ideas.

Hear from the brilliant minds behind the latest technologies and trends, gain insight from leading health and biotech investors and learn how the healthcare industry is transforming practices, procedures and infrastructure in a post-COVID-19 world. Speakers include Moderna co-founder Derrick Rossi, economist Mariana Mazzucato, Globe and Mail columnist André Picard and more than 100 more. June 22 and 23, online

A discussion on IP and Canada’s innovation strategy

Canada is losing much of its intellectual property to foreign takeovers. The good news is that there is scant evidence of a hollowing out of Canada’s startup sector. How companies handle their intellectual property is only one factor that determines whether or not companies succeed or fail in this country. Ambition, access to capital, talent, government financial support and having a viable business model all play crucial roles. An expert roundtable hosted by the Innovation Economy Council will explore IP strategies and leakage as well as how IP fits into Canada’s overall innovation economy. June 3, online

Learn how to prepare, attract and close your seed round

High-potential companies need capital to sustain growth prior to profitability. This is for survival, but also for hiring key staff, enhancing public relations and improving marketing and sales. To help seed-stage companies, MaRS and RSM Canada are hosting an in-depth discussion with leading angel investors, as well as startups that have survived raising seed capital. Topics to be covered include avoiding common mistakes, adapting fundraising plans and assessing potential impacts to valuation. June 1, online

A competition to address environmental and economic challenges in Canada’s oil and gas sector

The $5-million CRIN Digital Oil and Gas Technology Competition is seeking innovators to identify high-impact digital technology solutions that address environmental and economic challenges in Canada’s oil and gas sector. Up to $1 million is available per successful applicant. An upcoming information session offers a chance to learn about the competition requirements, receive tips on creating a successful submission and have your questions answered live. June 9, online

A networking and mentorship series for women in tech

How can women in tech overcome workplace bias and achieve greater gender equality? Tech conference host Collision is hosting a series of networking and mentorship activities that ask the tough questions about how women work and how they’re treated in the tech industry today. Speakers include Susan Hailey, a vice president at OpenText Corporation, who will be talking about the important role leaders play in the implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and Lindsey Shepard, the CMO of Mozilla.
