7th March 2017, Jalisco Mexico – The Advanced Energy Centre (AEC) at MaRS Discovery District is pleased to announce a Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Jalisco’s Energy Agency in Mexico. This agreement signifies a commitment by the AEC and the Energy Agency to encourage closer economic ties and strengthen beneficial relations between the regions, by working to accelerate energy innovation in each respective jurisdiction.

The Mexican electricity landscape has been significantly altered since the introduction of energy reform in 2013, which aimed to lower electricity prices and increase renewable generation. There has been a complete restructuring of the sector, with deregulation leading to a wave of private investment across the country’s electricity system.

In line with these market changes, the Energy Agency was established to promote the development of a reliable, efficient and sustainable energy system for the State of Jalisco in Mexico, through technological innovation, economic promotion and exploitation of the region’s renewable energy potential.
